Top 10 Amazon Quarantine Favorites
We've all seen Amazon favorites videos on YouTube and recently during quarantine, "TikTok made me buy it" videos, about interesting Amazon finds, have been especially popular. I am an avid Amazon shopper so I have seen so many of these videos and even blog posts but I've noticed a lot of the products that are promoted are gimmicky kitchen products or let's face it, a room projector. I don't know about y'all, but while staying home for the last few months, I didn't find a need to have a glowing galaxy projected onto my walls, but I mean to each their own. Let me tell you, there were a lot of "useless" Amazon purchases I made, but I thought it would be far more useful to talk about my favorite most practical purchases while on lock down.
These products either made my time in quarantine, due to the Coronavirus Pandemic, more entertaining, relaxing, or productive. I am so excited to share these favorites with you all because I genuinely loved using these products and still use them when the Stay at Home Orders were lifted. I'm also excited to announce that Nik's Closet Culture is now a part of the Amazon Associates Program! Yay! This makes it a bit easier for me to link and recommend the Amazon products I use and find. And yes, this means this post includes affiliate links from the program, which this blog receives a very small commission from if you decide to click on or purchase any of the items I recommend, and it is at no cost to you. Amazon is not paying me to post specific products nor am I being sponsored by them, these are just the items I bought with my own money and actually use. So feel free to click on the Shop Now button for anything that interests you. I also added pictures of the original listing so you know what it looks like.
Useful Products I Bought While Staying Home
1. First on my list of quarantine favorites is something a lot of people probably coveted during the first few months of Stay at Home; acetone nail polish remover. Who would have thought? This truly came in clutch, still does, for that first month that I realized I wasn't sure how I was going to get off all the dip powder from my manicure when all the nail salons were closed. If you didn't know and struggled like me, thinking I had to hand file all my nails with an electric filer, 100% acetone is the best for removing dip powder nails, acrylic nails, gel nails, and nail glue from your fingernails. Regular nail polish remover just won't cut it. What I love about this Onyx brand one is how big it is. When I initially purchased this it was a listing for one bottle and a nail file included. I'm still on that one bottle and I haven't even made it half way through it. I've done acrylic, dip, regular polish, and press-on nails numerous times since I first got it and it's still has so much. I recommend this especially if you are now regularly doing your own nails at home, it makes for easier manicure or pedicure removal.
2. Going along with the at home nail care, my next favorite purchase are press-on nails. I've been using Kiss brand press-on nails for years but this was my first time trying their long length strong enough acrylics. These were a game changer for affordable and strong press-ons. Affordable at home press-on nails are commonly thin plastic tips fitted for a whole fingernail, and yes these are the same type that are used at nail salons to make long nice acrylic sets but they are layered with thick acrylic powder by nail techs to strengthen the nails for use. This one by Kiss is made extra thick towards the tip and thinner towards the nail-bed to create a comfortable fit and added strength to nails. When I tell you these looked like I had a fresh set from the salon, but I did them safely at home for way less. And if you haven't gotten on that press-on nail train, this is your informal invitation. This set, with proper prep and application could easily have your manicure going strong for 3 weeks with no nails popping off. And they just look great with a nice polish, check out how mine looked here. I recommend this because doing my nails was one of the activities I did during quarantine to practice self care, it helped me stay creative with my hands, and just relax.
3. Next up with hair care, I bought this Ez Detangler brush that I actually first saw on an Instagram ad. So Instagram technically made me buy it. The ads were very convincing and at that point I had seen it few times on separate occasions so I looked it up on Amazon and tried it out. What's so unique about this brush is that it is formulated for natural or very curly hair types. It is supposed to make it easier to brush through because of the way the bristles are set up. I have 4c hair type and I took out my braids to let my hair breathe during this time. Of all the brushes I've used to help maintain my textured hair, this is up there on the list of making it easier to effectively brush out my whole head. I'm also slightly tender-headed so being able to adjust the distance between the bristles helped a lot. I recommend this because it came in a pack of two so I gave one to my mom to use and I was able to thoroughly brush out my hair on wash days.
4. Funny story about this sweet almond oil product, I was actually recommended to use this by a health professional right before lock down, to effectively moisturize hands after excessive hand washing. I had barely heard any talks or news on the virus and I had noticed this health professional carrying this Pura D'or bottle on her break and I asked her what it was for and she told me that this sweet almond oil was a great for dry and cracked skin and she used it because she washed her hands a lot working at the hospital. Then everything with the virus went down and the excessive hand washing, though very important and necessary, severely dried out my hands. To the point where they looked so ashy and scratched up that my regular lotions weren't helping. So, then I finally looked up the oil and read up on its benefit uses and it just re-hydrated my hands after using it a few times. I recommend this product because you don't have to just use it as a hand moisturizer, it feels amazing all over the skin. It doesn't have a strong scent and contains vitamin A and E that can be useful it other beauty regimens like moisturizing cuticles, removing makeup, and smoothing rough areas on the body.
5. Next, is another self care favorite but in the form of a drink. That is my favorite jasmine green tea. Twinings makes some of the best teas and they are rightfully well known for that, but their jasmine green tea is probably my first or second favorite tea of all time. If you haven't tried jasmine green tea, I highly recommend it for those of you who like a lighter green tea. I doesn't taste floral to me but more so light and smooth. I also make my green tea drinks hot with a bit of sugar and a bit of this creamer and it tastes amazing! If you like to drink tea in the morning or in the afternoon with some cake, I think you would love this Twinings flavor. I always feel warm and relaxed after having this.
6. My next Amazon favorite is personally really cool because I designed it. What? I know crazy, but I self published a few journals through Kindle Direct Publishing that are available on the Amazon Marketplace. I put a lot of thought into all the designs but this "Magic Melanin" one embodies the Black Girl Magic vibe and artistic visual of brown tones in a color blocking art cover that I think every queen would love. This 6x9 lined paperback notebook is small enough and light enough to take on walks for mindful journaling or to keep on your nightstand or in your bag to catch thoughts or ideas that you need to write down. I recommend this because not only is it cute but it useful and it was created by a melanated queen for other melanated queens to use. #SupportBlackCreatives
7. This next item is probably the closet thing to a gadget seen on Amazon favorites TikToks, and that is a phone stand. It isn't like a phone stand for a car dashboard or even a tripod, it literally sits on a desk for easy cellphone viewing and housing. I use this for my phone and tablet to watch YouTube and movies while doing my nails or makeup at my desk. If you like to follow along on makeup tutorials or like watching shows on your phone, this helps so much because it elevates your device from table level to eye level, with the adjustable extender. I recommend this because it improved my cellphone entertainment viewing when I wanted to be hands free.
8. Now getting into organization, I like many others took advantage of the time at home to organize closets, rooms, and garages. Shoe storage was getting out of hand for me because I love shoes and I have a hard time parting with them, even if they don't fit anymore. So in an effort to find a neater way to house them I found these clear plastic show boxes. These were really nice because they came collapsed so it wouldn't take up space when it wasn't being used like other cardboard shoe boxes. This men's size one is more than big enough to house a pair of my shoes and they can be used for other storage. They also have holes on the sides so any odors won't collect inside the box. I think it would be really cool to have enough of these to make a shoe wall out of but I can't be giving myself these ideas, I already have enough shoes. I recommend this if like me you wanted to find storage solutions for your shoe collection.
9. Almost there, this second to last favorite item is another storage saver but specifically for my makeup. This particular small organizer set is currently housing my eye makeup products and lip products and I love it. I have all my beauty products, skincare, and makeup set up on a rolling three level cart and the middle section is where I put my non-everyday makeup. Before, I got these clear organizer drawers I had a a very small acrylic drawer and lipstick holder and another makeup holder that wasn't large enough to contain my whole collection. Although this one from STORi is only 4-1/2" tall these work better than what I had before, and they also look really nice stacked up.
10. And last but not least this favorite is just another STORi cosmetic organizer but in the 6-3/4" height. I stack each of the other smaller drawers on top of these and completely changed my makeup storage game. I think these were really meant for me because both units together fit perfectly in the middle compartment of my cart and it neatly stores all of my extra makeup and face masks. Even though I wasn't wearing very much makeup during quarantine, having my products organized made me feel more productive and uncluttered my space. I recommend this if you want clear and simple storage units that aren't too bulky for smaller products like makeup, school supplies, or skincare.
And that's it. Those are my top 10 favorite Amazon products that I bought during quarantine. I know I didn't have to buy these items and I don't expect anyone else has to. These items from Amazon in someway or another proved very useful in a time where I couldn't easily pick them up in a store. I hope this was useful information, I definitely have enough Amazon purchases to make more posts so look out for those.
