Black-Owned Brands Gift Guide 2020
Well, where has 2020 gone? Where have we been all this time? Most likely at home washing our hands because of the pandemic. Christmas is next week, Hanukkah is already underway, Kwanzaa starts right after Christmas, and then its New Year's. Whatever you celebrate this Holiday season, or after for the post-season sales, I'd like to share with you some more Black owned small businesses and brands that you should shop from. Of course I will have links and pictures and it'll be in no particular order. And honestly, if you want to utilize this post as a super last minute gift guide, you better be ready for those high fast-shipping costs or just let your gift recipients know their presents are coming late-late. It's all good and most likely expected because most of the world is doing all their holiday shopping online and the post office and courier services are being stretched thin. So remember to say thank you to your mail-person!
21 of My Favorite Black-Owned Brands
#1
Mocha Whip: This is an OG brand for me because I've used their whipped body butter the longest out of every thing on this list. I love that I can l always come back to this brand because the quality and care they produce with each product is so evident. I am a big fan of their shea-butter Birthday scent and have pretty much tried it in everyone of their textured finishes. My favorite being the Bday Swirlie because it is so thick and the scent is strong, lasting, and it makes me smell like a vanilla/chocolate swirled cupcake.
#3
Unlax Candles: I know you're going to be sick of me talking about candles, but if there is one that you need to gift, it's Unlax. All their candles are hand crafted in small batches with 100% soy wax and essential oils, perfect for gifting a self-care gift package for someone. Their whole brand is about selfcare, unwinding, and reducing stress. Plus the creator, Kay, is so sweet!
#5
Bright Black: What do you know, another candle brand that I've shopped from. Aside from my sarcasm, I really do like the travel candles from this brand. They are different from the floral and feminine candles I gravitate the most to but are suitable for both genders. Buying this set is not only great to get a feel for their scents before buying full candles, but once we are allowed to travel again, it'll be wonderful to have these if you're the type of person that always likes to have a candle lit. The Paris and Signature are me two favorite scents at the moment.
#11
People of Color: Is a vegan and cruelty free nail polish brand option that I've seen used on every shade of person, and it looks great. Plus all the shades are so vibrant. If you have someone in your life that prefers vegan and cruelty free products, this is a great one to put on their radar.
#13
PopOrigins: I can honestly say I've been wearing this and Jlani anklets for a while; showering in them and never taking them off, and it has no signs of tarnishing at all. Very well made quality product. It also was shipped out so fast and it's whole brand represents the African Diaspora.
#16
Coloring Pins: I just love my Pantone inspired pin! Very well made and true to BGM aesthetic. Also got my Black Daria keychain and Obama pin from here too. I appreciate how true to representing the Culture the creator, Essence, is in all her pin an accessories collections. Also, the shop is taking a break soon, (will be back in January) so make your orders ASAP if you want them before 2020 ends.

Elia Vintage and Random and Chic are both great Black women-owned thrifted and reworked vintage clothing brands. Buying thrifted items are not only unique but eco-friendly and sustainable. If you're looking for more classic structured suit sets and 90's silhouettes, then go with Elia. If you're are more eccentric with prints and styles from the 80s and 90s, then Shayla's Random and Chic shop is for you. Most everything is thrifted so you most likely won't find the exact same pieces twice but the style is always amazing, and their stuff goes fast so check out their instagrams for updates on drops.
#20
Diva Boutique: Listen if you're still shopping at stores like Fashion Nova, let me put you on to Diva Boutique real quick. Remember that cute off the shoulder fit I mentioned earlier, yah, it's from them. And they have quite the selection. Thank me later.
#21
Nak Books on Amazon: Shameless self promo, but I designed some cool lined journals as an independent publisher on Amazon that you can feel free to check out! One of my proudest designs is my Nigerian IGBO KWENU saying journal, plus it's available on Amazon Prime so you can get it in time for Christmas. Also, my other Black Girl Magic and 2020 inspired lined journals are also available to purchase now!
